Dining with Friends

The Dining with Friends program is the first of its kind in Texas. The intent is to allow educators to dialogue on important issues in a safe environment. Educators need opportunities to dialogue effectively, so that their voice is one of action not one of self pity. The excitement it has generated is amazing but to watch the energy leave the meeting room to go back into the classroom is awe inspiring.

Only an organization such as Friends (www.fotps.org) can provide the needed environment, facilitation and security. It is a pilot program this year at a Garland site. There are participants from many school districts locally. In November we had two legislators join our discussion.

A hot three course meal is provided, a Dining with Friends journal/pen, membership in the organization, Friends poster and literature are a few of the benefits made available to the educator who is willing to break out of the stereotypical staff development model and be a part of a break through event.
